Mr. Mark Nichols is completing his 17th year as Director of Bands at Daleville High School. Prior to coming to Daleville, Mr. Nichols was the band director at Florala High School and Eufaula High School. He has taught in Alabama schools for twenty-four years. High school bands under Mr. Nichols direction have received numerous Superior ratings at competitions and festivals in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, New York, Florida, Illinois, Texas, and Canada.

Mr. Nichols graduated from The University of Southern Mississippi in the summer of 2000 with a Master’s in Music Education. He received his Bachelor of Music Education from Troy University, where he was the section leader and trumpet soloist in the “Sound of the South” and Symphonic Band. While at Troy University, Mr. Nichols was in many professional organizations including Phi Mu Alpha, Student Government Association, Collegiate Music Educator’s National Conference, Omicron Delta, Kappa Delta, and was very active in musical theater, jazz ensembles, and intramural sports. He is a Who’s Who Among American College Students and his time at Troy University was completed with an Excellence in Leadership scholarship. Mr. Nichols is also listed as a Who’s Who Among American Men and Who's Who Among Teachers as well as a past Teacher of the Year for Daleville City Schools.

In high school, Mr. Nichols attended and graduated with honors from Marion Military Institute. During these years he attained the JROTC rank of Cadet 2nd Lieutenant, the highest rank possible by a high school cadet. He was an Alabama All-State bandsmen  and traveled to Europe with the United States Collegiate Wind Band on a 21-day concert tour. Mr. Nichols was selected for Boy’s State and Model Senate. He is an Eagle Scout and still works with scouting on the regional level.

Mr. Nichols’ current professional organizations include The Alabama Jazz and Blues Federation, Alabama Music Educator’s Association, National Music Educator’s Association, Alabama for the Arts Alliance, and Alabama Bandmaster’s Association.

Mr. Nichols enjoys his free time performing on trumpet as well as getting outdoors backpacking. mountain biking, and doing triathlons.
